PULLMAN, Wash. — Author, poet and Washington State University alumnus Sherman Alexie will meet with members of the media from 11-11:30 a.m. Friday (Oct. 10) at Thompson Hall, Room 301, on the Pullman campus.
In ceremonies later Friday, Alexie will receive the Regents’ Distinguished Alumnus Award, WSU’s top award for its alumni. Alexie, a Spokane/Coeur d’Alene Indian, received a bachelor’s degree in American studies from WSU in 1994. He has gone on to craft a varied and celebrated writing career; in 1999, The New Yorker magazine named Alexie one of the top writers for the new millennium.
Alexie will become the 33rd recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The award presentation will be at 12:10 p.m. in Bryan Hall Auditorium. Afterward, Alexie will read from his latest book, “Ten Little Indians.” The event is free and open to the public.
