Peterson Named WSU Director of Admissions

PULLMAN, Wash. — Wendy Peterson, director of development for the Washington State University College of Education, has been named director of admissions at WSU, effective June 18.

Peterson, who served as interim admissions director during the 1998-99 academic year, was named following a national search.

“I am delighted to hire someone with Wendy’s experience and background,” said Jim Rimpau, vice provost for enrollment management. “She is committed to Washington State and her energy and enthusiasm will make her a great leader for our admissions office.”

Peterson served as interim director for admissions from November 1997 through the 1998-99 academic year. A 1982 graduate of WSU, Peterson was appointed assistant admissions director for high school relations in 1983. She served as director of admissions and high school relations at Skagit Valley College in 1986-87, then returned to WSU admissions.

In 1993, she was appointed director of orientation and coordinator of New Student Programs, a position she held until being selected as interim admissions director. Since May 1999, Peterson has been director of development for WSU’s College of Education.

Peterson said WSU offers a unique experience for its students.

“Our students have the opportunity to work with faculty and gain hands-on experience even as undergraduates,” the new director said. “There also are so many opportunities for our students to gain leadership experiences here that serve them beyond the college years.”

“I look forward to working with WSU’s talented admission team,” Peterson said. “It is exciting to be able to represent a world class institution to students ready for the academic challenges that this university can offer.”

Ken Vreeland has served as interim admissions director since April 1999.
