PULLMAN, Wash. — The cast of Washington State University’s Summer Palace production of “The Mikado” will bring the play back to campus for a two-night series next week.
The play is set to perform on Daggy Hall’s R.R. Jones Theatre stage Sept. 11-12 at 8 p.m.
The comic operetta, written by Gilbert and Sullivan, is an all-time favorite with theater audiences. The plot, filled with pratfalls, mistaken identities and deceits gone awry, centers on the hapless attempts of two star-crossed lovers — Yum-Yum, played by Kate Roman, and Nanki-Poo, played by Andrew Mielke — to marry against the wishes of all involved.
George Caldwell is director of the play, while Julie Wieck serves as musical director.
“Rarely will audiences hear such thoroughly fine voices and see such raucous comedy together on the Jones stage,” Caldwell said. “This is an ensemble of performers that must not be missed!”
The ticket box office, 335-7236, will be open Sept. 8-11 from 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $4 for WSU students and youth, $6 for seniors and $8 for general admission. Seating for the disabled is available and all seats are reserved.
