PULLMAN, Wash.–Washington State University’s newest regents, Spokane energy executive Robert Fukai and Seattle attorney William Marler, will attend their first board meeting here Friday, Jan. 16.
Both WSU graduates, Fukai and Marler were appointed to the board last month by Gov. Gary Locke to succeed John Ellis, Seattle, and Scott Lukins, Spokane, who completed their terms.
The board meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Lewis Alumni Centre. Committee sessions will get underway at 9 a.m. in the French Administration Building.
Action items on the regents’ agenda include authorization to proceed with an $8.29 million, infrastructure-improvement project; approving a $2 million intra-institutional loan from the university for design development and other costs associated with a planned $40 million student activities center, setting summer tuition and fees; and amending retirement rules and regulations.
Among information items will be a report on a planned 3-percent increase in housing and dining rates for 1998-99 and the results of an eight-month study and public discussion of a proposal to expand the university’s golf course.
Representatives of university constituencies also will report on recent developments, including WSU’s recent appearance at the Rose Bowl.
