WSU Provost Appoints Search Committees

PULLMAN, Wash.–Washington State University Provost Gretchen M. Bataille has appointed committees to conduct searches to fill the two positions of vice provost for research and dean of veterinary medicine.
Professor Robert Harder, International Programs, chairs the vice provost for research committee. James Carlson, associate director of the Agricultural Research Center, chairs the committee for the veterinary medicine dean.
Advertisements for the positions will begin appearing soon in national and regional publications. Committee members are expected to begin screening applications and nominations within 60 days and to fill the positions before the start of the fall academic term, Bataille said.
The provost said the vice provost for research will have specific duties related to the research mission of the university, and a separate dean for the graduate school will be responsible for graduate education, while working in concert with the vice provost for research.
“These two areas are related and at many universities are combined in one office,” Bataille said. “Increasingly, however, research universities are recognizing the importance of diversifying funding sources for research, while at the same time needing to rethink graduate education. These are two critical areas in a changing research environment, and my goal is to ensure that WSU serves both missions equally well.”
