PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Men’s Rowing Team will conduct its Rent-a-Rower fund raiser Saturday and Sunday, March 1-2 and March 8-9. The group will work from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
“As a club sport with no scholarships and very little funding from the university, the majority of our money comes from our own fund-raising efforts throughout the year,” said Michelle Arganbright, head coach of the men’s rowing team. The group of 17 rowers and four coxswains (steersmen) hopes to raise $3,000 for a new set of oars.
The charge to rent a rower is $10 per hour, per rower. Participants may rent up to four rowers, and jobs may last as long as six hours. The team prefers that jobs begin at the top of the hour (i.e. 9 a.m., 10 a.m., etc.). Common jobs include painting, weeding, landscaping, digging, chopping, trimming, moving, sanding and cleaning.
Scheduling takes place on a first come, first serve basis, so Arganbright suggests those interested in supporting men’s rowing and getting those spring projects out of the way call soon.
“Our athletes are very hard-working, responsible and eager to raise money for the new equipment we need this year,” she said. “Boats and oars are very expensive, and we depend on fund raisers and donations to keep this program alive and competitive.”
