PULLMAN, Wash. — G. Dennis Clifton, chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, has been appointed interim dean of the College of Pharmacy at Washington State University.
M. Abdel-Monem, who has been pharmacy dean since 1987, is retiring.
Clifton came to WSU last year to head the pharmacy practice program, which is headquartered in Spokane. He plans to spend two days each week on the Pullman campus as part of the interim dean assignment.
Making the announcement, Provost Gretchen Bataille said faculty members Keith Campbell and Richard Okita will be working closely with Clifton to ensure that the activities of the college and the commitments to ongoing initiatives will not be diminished by the change in leadership.
Bataille said a search committee will be appointed this summer and applications for the dean’s position expected by fall.
Clifton earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Oregon State University in 1982, and a doctorate from the University of Kentucky in 1984. He was a pharmacy resident at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, and served on the UK faculty for 12 years before coming to WSU. He was named a Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy in 1995.
