Meier Appointed WSU Department Chair

PULLMAN, Wash. — An associate professor at the Medical University of South Carolina has been appointed as a new department chair at the College of Pharmacy at Washington State University.

Dr. Kathryn E. (Kay) Meier will start in January as chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Meier has been on the faculty of Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston since 1991.

Meier received her B.A. in biology from the University of California at San Diego, in 1975 and her doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1981.

She did post doctoral work at the University of Wisconsin and at the University of California until 1984 when she joined the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Washington. She was there until 1991.

Meier will assume the chair’s position from interim chair Dr. Sayed Daoud, who took over early in 2002 after Dr. Raymond Quock returned to full-time teaching and research in the department.
