PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University College of Education has retained full accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
Dean Judy Mitchell announced that the college received written notification of the distinction following a regular accreditation visit in April. The last visit was in 1996, when the college also received full accreditation with a special commendation for commitment to diversity.
Professional accreditation is one way the college can be assured that its students are receiving the finest preparation for teaching in today’s schools, Mitchell said.
NCATE accredits 550 colleges of education nationally. Those institutions produce over 125,000 new teachers annually, or approximately two-thirds of the nation’s new teaching graduates.
