WSU’s NPR Adds New Station, KMWS

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s Northwest Public Radio is broadcasting a new public radio service in the Mount Vernon/Burlington area, KMWS, 90.1 FM. The “M” in the call letters is in honor of the late Edward R. Murrow, a WSU alumnus and former resident of Skagit County.

The frequency 90.1 FM was formerly used by Skagit Valley College station KSVR, which now broadcasts at 91.7 FM.

Programming on KMWS includes “Morning Edition,” “All Things Considered,” “Weekend Edition,” “Fresh Air with Terry Gross,” “Car Talk,” “Whad’Ya Know” with Michael Feldman, “A Prairie Home Companion,” “Talk of the Nation,” “The Diane Rehm Show,” “This American Life” and the “BBC World Service.” The full program schedule is available online at www.nwpr.org or by calling (800) 842-8991.

WSU has applied to the Federal Communications Commission to increase the coverage area of KMWS, expanding the station’s reach to a larger portion of Skagit County.

(Note to editor: Pending FCC approval of call letter changes, 90.1 FM still uses the call letters KSVR, and 91.7 FM uses KMWS. NPR anticipates approval to swap call letters on or about Nov. 27).
