“The Bookie” Opens Downtown Outlet

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Students Book Corporation — The Bookie — has opened the “Bookie at the Cougar Depot,” the firm’s second Pullman location.

The new outlet is located in the WSU Visitor Center, 225 N. Grand Ave., and sells WSU merchandise, including clothing, license plate holders, toys and Cougar Gold cheese.

Pullman downtown officials have been interested in a Bookie retail presence in the downtown area and the visitor center, and managers hope patrons find the new location a convenient alternative to the campus store.

“We’re very excited about the partnership,” said Patricia A. Wright, general manager of the Bookie. “We felt the need to help customers who couldn’t get to the Bookie, particularly on game day. It’s a great opportunity to serve those customers.”

The new store was open for business last week, with final touches still being made. “We hope to have everything in place by Homecoming weekend (Oct. 4-6),” Wright said.

The visitor center’s hours are 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, on Saturdays for WSU’s home football games, and other special events including Mom’s Weekend, spring and fall commencement, and several Saturdays during spring and summer months.

The visitor center began operations in 1996, and more than 24,000 people use its services each year.
