Rededication Ceremony for Kimbrough Hall Set for April 4

PULLMAN, Wash. – A rededication ceremony for the newly remodeled Kimbrough Music Building at Washington State University will take place on April 4 at 11:10 a.m. in the Kimbrough Concert Hall.

The ceremony will feature the premiere performance of a commissioned work, “Sonnets Upon Music,” by Charles Argersinger, coordinator of theory/composition at WSU. The composition is a piece for choral and instrumental chamber ensemble of three sonnets by William Shakespeare. The composition will be performed by the WSU Concert Choir, conducted by Lori J. Wiest; soprano soloist Julie Anne Wieck; and a small chamber ensemble including H. James Schoepflin, Susan Hess, Ann Yasinitsky, Erich Lear and Jill Schneider.

A reception and official ribbon cutting ceremony will follow the performance in the lobby of Kimbrough Hall. Among the guest speakers include President V. Lane Rawlins; Barbara Couture, dean of the College of Liberal Arts; Lear, project program chair; and Schoepflin, director of the School of Music and Theatre Arts.

A flute duo, student string quartet and a jazz combo will provide music before and after the ceremony.

The $8.9 million remodeling project features a fully equipped general education lecture hall, a new music listening library, a recording studio, a rehearsal room, an electronic piano lab and various other improvements.

Tours of Kimbrough will be led by members of the Mu Phi National Honorary Music Fraternity from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and noon to 12:30 p.m.

The WSU School of Music and Theatre Arts is sponsoring the public ceremony.
