Black Prisoners’ Caucus (BPC) at WSU: Roundtable Conversation

The Black Prisoners’ Caucus (BPC) has been a vital force for education, self-determination, and abolitionist organizing inside Washington State prisons for more than fifty years. This fall, Washington State University will host a roundtable conversation with BPC community group members and scholars to explore the history and ongoing work of the Caucus, and to highlight the insights of currently and formerly incarcerated leaders.
This event will lay the groundwork for a spring program featuring a campus screening of Since I Been Down (dir. Gilda Sheppard), followed by a live Q&A with Black Prisoners’ Caucus members at Coyote Ridge Corrections Center via Zoom. Together, these events will bring WSU students, faculty, and community members into conversation with one of the most important prisoner-led abolitionist organizations in the country, while creating opportunities for sustained partnership, co-sponsorship, and volunteer involvement.
We invite WSU departments, programs, and community partners to join us in supporting this series, which foregrounds the voices and leadership of justice-impacted Black men, disrupts the school-to-prison pipeline, and affirms the transformative possibilities of education and abolition.
