Donated eyeglass frames save students money, provide choice

In just one semester (Fall 2024), over 150 eyeglass frames were donated to the Vision Clinic at Cougar Health Services. New frames can cost $50 or more, and the donated frames helped a dozen students not only save hundreds of dollars but provided them with choices in style and fit.

The donations were part of the Vision Clinic’s Eyeglass Donation program, which is designed to help students who need new glasses but can’t afford them.

Faculty, staff, students, and community members are encouraged to donate their old frames (eyeglasses and sunglasses, both prescription and non-prescription are accepted) at drop boxes located at convenient locations around the Pullman campus:

  • Washington Building
In the Cougar Health Services medical clinic patient waiting area
  • Compton Union Building (CUB)
Inside the west entrance near Gesa Credit Union
  • Lighty Student Services Building
Office 360 next to the food pantry donation box
  • Student Recreation Center
Inside the main entrance near the information desk
  • SPARK
Inside the west entrance facing the Education Addition building

Vision clinic staff will inspect and sanitize each frame and make any necessary repairs.

The Vision Clinic is also participating in a contact lens recycling program sponsored by Bausch & Lomb. A recycling box for contact lenses is located at the front entrance of the Vision Clinic, located on the ground floor of the Washington Building.
