The Washington State University School of Music hosts its first jazz concert of the season this Tuesday, Oct. 17, featuring the WSU Jazz Big Band, Jazz Northwest, and internationally acclaimed Canadian jazz vocalist, Heather Bambrick.
The free concert will be held from 7:30–9 p.m. in the Kimbrough Music Building on the WSU Pullman campus. It will also be livestreamed on YouTube. Aaron Hill, assistant professor of saxophone, will be making his debut as WSU’s director of Jazz Big Bands. Jazz Northwest, WSU’s Faculty Jazz Ensemble, features Hill on saxophone, Dave Turnbull on trumpet, Jake Svendsen on piano, César Haas on guitar, Dave Bjur on bass, and Darryl “Doc D” Singleton on drums.
In addition to performing Tuesday night, Bambrick will also be sharing her expertise with students via clinics and masterclasses. Bambrick is a JUNO-nominated vocalist (Canada’s equivalent to the GRAMMYs) and was recently awarded Canada’s National Jazz Award for vocalist of the year. She has collaborated with Phil Nimmons, Fred Hirsch, Rob McConnell, Peter Appleyard, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, and others. She is also an award-winning voice actress and broadcaster on JAZZ.FM91 (Canada’s only all-Jazz radio station).
