Documentary screening Tuesday of ‘Owned: Tales of Two Americas’

This year’s Common Reading series will close with the screening of the 2022 documentary “Owned: Tales of Two Americas,” on Tuesday, April 26, at 4:30 p.m. in CUE 203. This film asks whether the “American Dream” of home ownership presents a false promise. While the federal postwar housing policy created the world’s largest middle class, it also set America on two divergent paths: one of generational wealth, the other of systemically defunded, segregated communities. This film makes the case that understanding the systemic inequalities creating in housing helps us understand a host of inequalities that persist into the 21st century. Hosted by the WSU Pullman Common Reading Program.
