Whiting Award winner, writer Brian Blanchfield, to read Oct. 19

Brian Blanchfield, Whiting Award winning poet and essayist, will read from his work to conclude Washington State University’s fall Visiting Writers Series at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 in a live event at the WSU Museum of Art and simulcast on YouTube Live.

Blanchfield, director of the University of Idaho MFA program in creative writing, is author of three books of poetry and prose. His work has collected a long list of honors, including his most recent, “Proxies: Essays Near Knowing,” which received a 2016 Whiting Award in Nonfiction and was shortlisted for the Lambda Literary Award in Gay Memoir and the PEN USA Award in Nonfiction. His poetry collection “A Several World,” won the 2014 Academy of American Poets’ James Laughlin Award. 

His recent work appears in America’s best literary magazines, including The Oxford AmericanTin HouseA Public SpaceThe Map Is Not the TerritoryNorthwest ReviewTextual Practice and The Chicago Review. He is also a recipient of fellowships from the Howard Foundation and the Idaho Council for the Arts. Blanchfield teaches in the Bennington Writing Seminars and at the University of Idaho.
