PULLMAN, Wash. — A total of 210 members of the Class of 1949 will return to Washington
State University this week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their graduation. Ninety-three of
the honored graduates will be accompanied by their spouses. This is the largest number of
Golden Grads returning from a single class in the school’s history, according to Keith Lincoln,
executive director of the WSU Alumni Association.
The Golden Grads will be joined by 37 graduates of the Class of 1939 who are marking their
60-year celebration. Twenty-one of the group will be with their husband or wife.
Five 50-year graduates still live in Pullman — Bob Boettcher, Virginia Dirks Boettcher, Chuck
“Bobo” Brayton, Ellene Westrom Estergreen and Janice Loschen Miller.
Gertrude Horn Reavis and her husband, James Reavis, of Pullman are members of the Class
of 1939.
Joseph R. Maten, Bellevue, was 1949 student body president; ASWSU secretary was Helen
Duncan Palmer, Shelton. Returning 1949 Class officers include President Bob Codding,
Milton-Freewater, Ore.; Vice President Gordon Pilcher, Mountain View, Calif.; and Secretary
Betty Bowman Eisenbrey, Coupeville, Wash. Robert F. Goldsworthy of Spokane was president of
the Class of 1939.
Two Golden Grads will be returning to the United States from overseas for the reunion. They
are Doreen Moorhead Dingwall, Bridgewater, South Australia; and Tormod Forland, Gjettum,
Norway.
The honored graduates will be arriving Wednesday. A full day of events is planned for
Thursday with a continental breakfast in the Lewis Alumni Centre, a 10 a.m. bus tour of the
campus, a noon luncheon and slide presentation in the Carey Ballroom in the Compton Union
Building , followed by a 5 p.m. social hour and reunion buffet dinner for both classes in the Carey
Ballroom at 6 p.m.
