Washington State University announces that applications and nominations for the Richard G. Law Excellence Award for Undergraduate Teaching will be accepted through Mon., March 30, and for the Smith Teaching and Learning Grant through Wed., April 1.
The decision to extend the application deadlines from those originally announced is to acknowledge the pressing commitments faced by faculty due to COVID-19 commitments and considerations.
The Law Award recognizes outstanding teaching by faculty on all campuses who lead courses in the University Common Requirements (UCORE) curriculum. The Law Award recognizes exceptional educators for their efforts to provide top learning experiences for their students. Those eligible for the Law Award include all instructors of record—instructors and clinical faculty as well as tenure-track faculty—on all campuses, whose teaching has included at least one UCORE class annually for at least the past three years.
Smith grants support faculty with innovative ideas to enhance teaching and learning. There are three focus areas for this year’s awards: increasing course completion by reducing high C-DFW rates and/or closing equity gaps; incorporating undergraduate research in lower-division curriculum; and, improving student writing in M Courses (Writing in the Major). Proposals should address one of the areas through innovative practices that improve student learning.
