Swing Dance Jan. 22 Features WSU Jazz Big Band

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State University’s Jazz Society and the
Swing Devils of Moscow will present a swing dance from 8 p.m.-midnight
Saturday, Jan. 22, in WSU’s Compton Union Building’s Matthew Carey
Ballroom.

The award-winning WSU Jazz Big Band, directed by jazz studies coordinator
Gregory Yasinitsky, will perform both classics from the swing era and
contemporary swing favorites. Selections include “In the Mood,” “Sing, Sing,
Sing” and “Take the A Train,” along with “Jump, Jive and Wail” and “Zoot
Suit Riot.” Singing with the band will be Julie Silvera-Jensen. The WSU Swing
Combo also will perform. Free swing dance lessons will be given from 8-9 p.m.

Tickets for the dance are $3 per person or $5 per couple. The dance is a
fund-raiser for the Jazz Big Band, which will perform this spring on the “2000
Arts at Sea Cruise,” sponsored by World Projects International.
