PULLMAN, Wash. — An exhibit by Seattle artist Alfredo Arreguin opened this
week on the Washington State University campus.
“Calligraphy of the Spirit,” a series of paintings organized as part of the
university’s Semana de la Raza 2000 — “Celebrating our Past Embracing the
Future” activities, will be on exhibit through March 3.
The artist will lecture at 6 p.m. March 2 in the Fine Arts Auditorium, followed
by a reception at the museum.
Arreguin lived in Mexico until he was 23. Since 1959 he has lived in Seattle,
where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of
Washington.
His pieces have been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution’s National
Museum of American Art, the Tucson Museum of Art, the San Francisco
Museum of Art, the San Antonio Museum of Art and the Albuquerque
Museum. One of his designs was selected for a UNICEF greeting card
distributed in Europe.
Arreguin served as a Seattle arts commissioner. He also was designer for the
1988-89 White House Easter egg.
