Heroic WSU alum to receive Medal of Honor at White House

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ronald J. Shurer II, a former medic with the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) and a WSU alumnus, who heroically fought his way up a mountain to aid teammates and their Afghan commando counterparts, has been selected to receive the Medal of Honor.

The White House announced that Shurer (’01 business economics) went above and beyond the call of duty April 6, 2008, while assigned to Special Operations Task Force 33 in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom. President Donald Trump will present him with the Medal of Honor — the highest military award for valor — in a White House ceremony on Oct. 1. See details at the White House and U.S. Army websites.
