PULLMAN, Wash. — A jazz concert featuring woodwind artist and vocalist
Horace-Alexander Young and saxophonist Gregory Yasinitsky is set for
Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Kimbrough Concert Hall on the Washington State
University campus. The 8 p.m. program is free to the public.
Young, a WSU jazz studies faculty member, has performed worldwide with
well-known performers, including B.B. King and McCoy Tyner. He regularly
tours with South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim of Dollar Brand.
Yasinitsky, coordinator of jazz studies at WSU, has performed with Lionel
Hampton, Stan Getz, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
Young and Yasinitsky will perform as members of Jazz Northwest, the WSU
faculty jazz sextet. The group also includes trumpeter David Turnbull, pianist
Charles Argersinger, percussionist David Jarvis and bassist Gus Kambeitz.
The program will include “I’m Beginning to See the Light” by Duke Ellington
and “Naima” by John Coltrane. Original compositions by group members also
will be presented, including “That’s What!” by Turnbull, “Incident in San
Rafael” by Young, “Tyrannosaurus” by Yasinitsky, and “Clowns Gone Bad”
by Argersinger.
