WSU Musicians to Perform Holiday Concert on Dec. 7

PULLMAN, Wash. — A holiday concert featuring several of Washington State
University’s music groups is set for 8 p.m. Dec. 7 in Bryan Hall Auditorium.

The free to the public event will highlight the WSU Concert Choir, the WSU
Symphony Orchestra and the WSU University Singers.

The concert choir, directed by Lori Wiest with assistant Bryan Long, will begin
the program with “Hosanna to the Son of David” by Orlando Gibbons and a
set of four motets based on Gregorian chants by Maurice Duruflé. It will also
perform two carol-anthems, “Sing Lullaby” and “A Spotless Rose,” by Herbert
Howells and conclude with “Clap Your Hands” and “What Wondrous Love”
by Edwin Fissinger.

The Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Keating Johnson, will open its
portion of the concert with the first and final movements of Ludwig von
Beethoven’s Eighth Symphony. The orchestra also will perform “Navarra for
Two Violins and Orchestra” by Pablo de Sarasate, featuring violinists Shelley
Potter and Matthew McLin.

The University Singers, led by Charles Neufeld and featuring Jill Schneider at
the Bryan Hall organ, will present holiday music. The performance will include
“O Du Holder,” “Susser Knabe,” “What is this Lovely Fragrance,” “Jesus
Christ the Apple Tree” and a work by Daniel Pinkham, “Christmas Cantata.”
Two brass choirs also will join the University Singers to close the performance.

The concert choir will host a bake sale during intermission to raise funds for a
two-week tour to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Hungary in May
2001.
