Games, Cars and Prizes Highlight Marketing Internship

PULLMAN, Wash. — For the third consecutive year, the Washington State
University Department of Marketing has teamed with General Motors to
design a comprehensive marketing campaign promoting Pullman’s GM
dealership, Chipman & Taylor Chevrolet-Oldsmobile.

David Sprott, WSU marketing faculty member, advises 26 marketing students
he selected for the project. They formed a marketing agency, “Elite
Endeavors,” to create and carry out the campaign.

Two campaign events are aimed at involving and helping the community. They
are a basketball tournament to benefit the YMCA at WSU and an on-campus
show to promote the dealership, said internship coordinator Kristen Thibodo,
a senior from Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

A “Drive It Home 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament” will be held April 8-9 in
WSU’s PE Building, Room 146. It will feature a slam-dunk contest and hoop
shoot.

A “Drive It Home” show will be held all day April 12 on the Glenn Terrell Mall.
It will include bungee bull, remote control cars and a pizza-eating contest. The
basketball tournament’s college/adult championship game will be played from
noon-1 p.m. Several new GM vehicles will be on display, said event planning
chair Michael Clark, a senior from Spokane. A barbecue lunch will be served by
the Compton Union. Movie passes, dinner certificates and CDs will be given
away.

Ed Packer, Chipman & Taylor general manager, said the dealership’s funding
and support of the program “gives us the opportunity to support WSU by
sponsoring this hands-on” experience for the university’s “finest marketing
students.”
