PULLMAN, Wash. — Pharmacy students at Washington State University have
collected more than $3,000 in donations for renovation of a new co-ed
fraternity they hope to live in next fall.
Several students have spent afternoons, evenings and weekends working on
the former Delta Upsilon fraternity house, according to Nicholas R. Blanchard,
a pharmacy faculty member and co-adviser of the WSU student chapter of the
Kappa Psi professional pharmaceutical fraternity.
A fund-raising goal of $8,000 has been set to help with such basic furnishings
as shower curtains, door knobs, tables, chairs, couches, blinds, bolt locks, and
even cleaning supplies and silverware.
“We’ve still got a long way to go,” Blanchard said this week. “We need new
electrical wiring and new carpet. The $8,000 was a very conservative estimate.”
A ribbon-cutting ceremony and luncheon will be held at the new residence at
noon Saturday, April 8, to show it off to WSU College of Pharmacy alumni.
More than 60 alumni have signed up to attend the annual Pharmacy Weekend
at the college Saturday.
A past president of the Kappa Psi Northwest regional council also will attend
Saturday’s ribbon cutting, Blanchard said.
The new Kappa Psi house is the first professional fraternity residence on the
WSU campus and the first co-ed fraternal living group. Kappa Psi has a
six-year lease on the house, located at 815 Ruby St. The house can
accommodate about 60 students.
Kappa Psi was established at WSU in 1916.
