New Blues Program Premieres on Northwest Public Radio

PULLMAN, Wash. — “True Blues,” a weekly three-hour blues program,
premieres at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 1, on Northwest Public Radio’s NPR and
Classical Music network.

NWPR, licensed to Washington State University in Pullman, broadcasts news
and fine arts programming to portions of Washington, Idaho, Oregon and
British Columbia.

“True Blues” originated on NWPR affiliate KZAZ-FM in Bellingham in
October 1999. Ron Gordon, a longtime blues enthusiast and guitarist, hosts the
show.

Over the years, Gordon has developed a deep respect for the history and
lineage of the blues — the way the tradition has been passed down from
generation to generation. “I like the rawness of the blues,” said Gordon. “The
way emotions are put out there, rather than hidden.”

Each week, “True Blues” will feature a wide variety of blues: acoustic and
electric, traditional and current. Along with the music, Gordon brings a unique
expertise of the genre to the show. “Behind every song, there is a performer, a
story and more than a bit of history,” said Gordon. “The listener will hear them
all. But most of all, there is the music … the finest blues in the world.”
