Lane Rawlins Officially Takes Helm at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Board of Regents has
formally delegated presidential authority to V. Lane Rawlins. The action came
at a regular meeting of the regents held June 7 in Seattle.

The new president has been at work in Pullman since June 1. The official
delegation of authority allows him to carry out university business in
accordance with state law.

Rawlins is the ninth president of Washington State University. He succeeds
President Samuel Smith, who will retire at the end of June. Smith is presently
carrying out a number of duties for WSU while serving as president emeritus
from his office in Seattle.
