If you are thinking of changing your unit/department name here are some ideas to contemplate:

  • How will the name be abbreviated?
  • Are there any other units/departments with a similar name?
  • Is a name change necessary because of added scope of instruction or accountability?

Here are some names that are so close that it is easy to confuse where to actually send the mail.

  • Finance & Administration (1045) vs Finance & Management Science (4750)
  • Materials & Resources Management (1150) vs Materials Research Center (2711) vs Materials Sciences (1030) vs Materials Science & Engineering (2920)
  • Photographic Services (7013) vs Photography Services (5610)
  • U Rec–is it University Receivables (1039) or University Recreation (1830)
