Building scientist Iain Walker will speak on indoor air quality and ventilation at a lecture on Wednesday, April 19, 4:10-5 p.m. in PACCAR 202 on the WSU campus.
Walker is a scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory where he leads the Residential Building research group. His current work focuses on indoor air quality, retrofits, zero/low energy homes and HVAC systems in residential buildings. He is a fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and is executive editor of Home Energy magazine. He is the vice-chair of the national standard for residential indoor air quality, ASHRAE 62.2, and provides leadership and technical support to residential building-related standards and guidelines for ASHRAE, ASTM, RESNET, CSA/CGSB and other local, state, national and international bodies. He has authored over forty journal articles, sixty conference papers and forty research reports.
This talk will discuss some of the technical background of the standard, such as why the air flow rates are what they are, and give a summary of its current requirements. This discussion will include a summary of the history of ventilation, how ventilation is dealt with in other countries, and current issues in ventilation and indoor air quality in homes.
