Qui Nguyen’s action-packed drama-filled comedy, “She Kills Monsters,” is a Mom’s Weekend must see. From a homicidal sprite to a giant green man-eating gelatinous cube, the Dungeons & Dragons inspired production is filled with fantastical characters and nods to ‘90s pop culture.
Three performances at will be held April 7 and 8 in Jones Theatre (Daggy Hall) at 7:30 p.m. nightly plus a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee. The production includes strong language and mild adult themes.
Reserved seating for each performance is $10 adults and $8 seniors (ages 60 and better), students and youth. A discounted rate of $6 per person is available to groups of eight or more.
Tickets are on sale at TicketsWest outlets, including online at https://ticketswest.com/events/wsu-performing-arts/10391/, by phone at 800-325-SEAT and in person at WSU’s Beasley Coliseum (ticket office open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday). The Daggy Hall box office will open two hours before each performance for ticket sales and will-call.
“She Kills Monsters,” directed by clinical associate professor Benjamin Gonzales, tells the story of Agnes Evans (Mallorie Jordan) as she packs up her childhood home after the death of her family in a car accident. When she finds her younger sister Tilly’s (Sara Wagoner) Dungeons & Dragons notebook, Agnes decides to learn more about her sister by playing through Tilly’s D&D campaign.
In 2013, “She Kills Monsters” was awarded the American Alliance for Theatre & Education’s Distinguished Play Award honoring outstanding plays for young people.
“She Kills Monsters” is presented by WSU Performing Arts (https://performingarts.wsu.edu/) by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
