EVERETT, Wash. – Blackberries, ivy, holly, Scotch broom, reed canary grass and knotweed are a few of the invasive weeds that plague landowners. The Washington State University Extension forestry program will offer an expo to equip landowners to combat these invaders.
It will be 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at McCollum Park and the Snohomish County WSU Extension Cougar Auditorium less than a mile from I-5, exit 186, in South Everett. Doors will open at 11 a.m.; arrive early to meet invasive weed control organizations and herbicide suppliers.
The cost is $20 per person or $30 per couple before Nov. 12; $30/$40 before Nov. 17 and $40/$50 at the event. Call 425-357-6023 for the discounted student and Master Gardener rate. Hands-on demonstrations and practice of control techniques such as weed wrench use, sheet mulching, foliar herbicides, cut stump treatments and stem injection will be included. Participants will learn to use herbicides safely, including what products, where to buy and how to read and follow labels. They will practice tank mixing with dyes and learn pesticide laws.
