Los Angeles-Based HereAndNow Theatre Group Due at WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. — The hereandnow theatre company will perform Thursday, April 15, on the Washington State University campus. The 8 p.m. program is planned for the Compton Union Building Auditorium and open to the public without charge.
The nonprofit, Asian-American theatre company tours colleges and universities as well as other venues throughout the United States. The theatre group was founded by artistic director John Miyasaki and six other Asian-American actors from East West Players in 1989.
Cast members come from all facets of Asian-American communities, ranging from Laotian, Thai and Filipino to Chinese, Japanese, Indian and Korean. As each story unfolds, a different message is revealed to the audience.
Some issues the group covers include inner ethnic conflict, the struggles of coming to America, political injustice, sexual experiences and attitudes, gender issues, and what it means to grow up Asian in the United States. All of the material presented is original — conceived, written, directed and acted by Asian-American artists.
The hereandnow performance is a part of the Asian American Pacific Islander Awareness month.
