PULLMAN, Wash. – A world premiere will highlight a free brass chamber music concert at 3:15 p.m. Friday, April 15, in Bryan Hall at Washington State University. A chamber music concert with strings and woodwinds will follow at 4:15 p.m.
During the brass concert, the trumpet ensemble will perform the world premiere of an arrangement by WSU professor David Turnbull of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Triumphal March” from the opera “Aida.” This arrangement also will be performed as the finale of the Festival of Trumpets Concert at the International Trumpet Guild Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in June.
In addition to the trumpets, other groups will include the trombone choir, horn choir, tuba choir, tuba quartet and brass ensemble. They will perform “BoneWeek Fanfare 6” by Brad Edwards; “Allegro for Tuba Quartet” by Roger Jones; “Espionage” by Susan Mutter; “Soundings” by Steve Matchett; “Contrasts” by Marcel G. Frank; and “Canzon Quarti Toni” from “Sacrae Symphoniae” by Giovanni Gabrieli.
Chamber works by Mendelssohn, Dohnanyi and Martinu will be part of the 4:15 p.m. concert.
