March 24-25: Regents to hold regular meeting at Tri-Cities

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Board of Regents of Washington State University will hold a regularly scheduled meeting March 24 and 25 on the WSU Tri-Cities campus, Consolidated Information Center, Rooms 212-214.

The WSU Regents will consider action items, including issuing a Regent’s Distinguished Alumni Award; naming a facility and conferring an honorary degree on behalf of late WSU President Elson S. Floyd; giving authorization to proceed with schematic designs for buildings on the WSU Pullman campus and a on the WSU Tri-Cities campus; authorizing design and construction of a new Art Museum on the WSU Pullman campus; and authorizing amendments to the Standards of Conduct for Students.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m., March 24, with a meeting of the Regents’ Executive Committee, followed by consecutive meetings of the Regents’ Finance and Audit, Academic and Student Affairs, and External Affairs committees. Each committee session will convene immediately following the completion of the previous session. All four sessions are scheduled to conclude prior to 5 p.m.

The Regents will re-convene at the same location at 8 a.m., March 29, to initially hear reports from various WSU officials and campus organizations, including the WSU Tri-Cities chancellor, the WSU Foundation, the WSU Faculty Senate, Associated Students of WSU Tri-Cities, Graduate and Professional Student Association and WSU Administrative Professional Advisory Council.

The Regents are expected to take action on recommendations including:

  • Designating a recipient of the Regent’s Distinguished Alumni Award for 2016.
  • Naming a proposed WSU Pullman Cultural Building, the “Elson S. Floyd Cultural Center.
  • Awarding an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy degree to former WSU President Elson S. Floyd.
  • Approving a schematic design for a cultural center building on the campus of WSU Pullman.
  • Approving a schematic design for a student union building on the campus of WSU Tri-Cities.
  • Approving design and construction of the Museum of Art expansion project on the WSU Pullman with a total budget of $15 million.
  • Approving revisions to the Standards of Conduct for Students intended to align with best practices, expand the composition of the university academic integrity hearing board to allow students to serve on that board, further clarify the jurisdiction of the standards of conduct for students, and make other minor revisions

In addition, on Thursday, March 24, the Regents will attend a reception held at 5 pm, WSU Tri-Cities Wine Science Center, Richland, Wash., followed by a Board of Regent’s Dinner at 550 Columbia Point Drive, Richland, Wash.
