March 22, 25: WSU faculty concerts span flute to funk

Ann-Marie-Yasinitsky-webPULLMAN, Wash. – Two concerts, including a farewell with retiring professor Ann Marie Yasinitsky, will showcase music faculty at Washington State University while supporting the School of Music scholarship fund.

Performances in the Faculty Artist Series are free to WSU students with ID and cost $10 general admission and $5 for senior citizens and non-WSU students. Tickets will be available in the lobby 30 minutes before each concert.

March 22: After 25 years, Yasinitsky is retiring from WSU and will present her farewell recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in Bryan Hall. Performing with her will be longtime collaborator Gerald Berthiaume, WSU professor of piano.

The program will include a number of her favorite French and American works, including the sonatas of Francis Poulenc and Robert Mucynski, the “Sonatine” of Pierre Sancan and “Sixth Sense,” composed by her husband, Greg Yasinitsky, director of the WSU School of Music.

snider-webMarch 25: Blue Funk Jailbreak, a band of local musicians directed by WSU music instructor Dave Snider, will play music that spans styles – including blues, funk, fusion, reggae and jazz fusion – at 8 p.m. Friday, March 25, in Kimbrough Hall.

Compositions arranged by Snider will include “School Days,” by Stanley Clarke, “Strasbourg Saint Denis,” by Roy Hargrove, “Stratus,” by Billy Cobham, “Tune 88,” by Jeff Lorber and “Hurricane Season,” by Trombone Shorty. Extended solos will be performed by band members: keyboard/saxophonist Brian Dyre, drummer Tom Garrett, guitarist Axel Krings and trombonist Setty Waroffa.
