Reservations Being Taken for Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet

PULLMAN, Wash. — The 1999 Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet this month will feature a meal of locally grown and produced food.
Sponsored by the YWCA of WSU, the 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, event at Pullman High School will include a lasagna dinner — vegetarian option available — made by Pasta Etc., food grown at Paradise Farms and bread baked with local flour by Xanadu Bread.
Banquet tickets are $8, children under 10 eat free.
During the banquet, the YWCA Martin Luther King Scholars Program will give awards to kindergarten through 12th grade student winners of the arts and essay contest honoring the Rev. King. Award-winning students and one parent or teacher will be the YWCA’s guests at the banquet.
Arts and essay contest packets are available at all Pullman public schools, Neill Public Library and from the YWCA of WSU. Jan. 12 is the entry deadline.
“This is also an opportunity for members of our community to come together in the spirit of Dr. King to discuss issues of social and racial justice in our community and to receive an update on the new Pullman Human Rights Commission,” says Liza Rognas of the YWCA.
