Tax Expert to Speak on Washington state tax system trends and issues

Cara Griffith, news editor of global nonprofit Tax Analysts (https://www.taxanalysts.com/www/website.nsf/Web/AboutTaxAnalysts), will present “The Good, The Bad and the Downright Ugly: An Outsider’s Look at Washington State’s Tax System,” 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, in CUE 203 at Washington State University.

Griffith will discuss the state’s tax system, business and occupation taxes, tax administration and transparency issues, and current events including education funding, marijuana and retroactive taxation.

Gil Brewer, senior assistant director of tax policy for the Washington State Department of Revenue, will also participate in the forum to address Griffith’s concerns that DOR policies are not as transparent as they should be. A question/answer opportunity for students will follow.

The presentation is hosted by the WSU Howard D. and B. Phyllis Hoops Institute of Taxation Research and Policy (https://business.wsu.edu/research-faculty/institutes/hoops-institute/).
