Etreby Computer Company Donates System to WSU

PULLMAN, Wash. — Etreby Computer Company has donated an ApotheCare® 2000 pharmaceutical care software system to the College of Pharmacy at Washington State University.
G. Dennis Clifton, interim dean of the college, said the system will be used by pharmacist Janet Schmittgen, a clinical instructor in pharmacy practice, to assist in teaching the pharmaceutical care process to pharmacy students.
Clifton said, “By learning to use this sophisticated technology, our students will become better prepared to provide patient-care services during their clinical rotations and after graduation.”
Bill Etreby, president of Etreby Computer Company, said his company is “committed to equipping the profession with state-of-the-art patient care software, and to teaching pharmacists the principles of pharmaceutical care. Our commitment extends to pharmacy education as well.”
The $35,000 gift includes the software program and workstations for an entire classroom.
Schmittgen said the system is user-friendly and, in addition to helping the pharmacist manage and evaluate a patient’s drug use, it can provide the patient with printed information about particular diseases or the side effects of particular prescription drugs.
“It is not a tool to replace clinical knowledge, but to help people think better and use their clinical knowledge,” she said.
Etreby Computer Company, based in Anaheim, Calif., is one of the nation’s most respected pharmacy software companies and provides pharmacy management and pharmaceutical care software to pharmacists in all practice settings.
