Archbishop Desmond Tutu recently endorsed the growing movement for individuals and institutions to cut their financial ties to the fossil fuel industry for the sake of keeping the planet a livable place. On Friday, April 18, Will Lana from Trillium Asset Management will give a presentation and lead a discussion about this strategy to combat global warming through fossil fuel divestment at Washington State University at 3 p.m. in The Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE) 202. Will Lana will explain the divestment campaign to encourage universities, businesses and individuals to divest from companies in the fossil fuel industry, and provide socially responsible investing information for people interested in moving their personal investments out of coal, oil and gas companies and reinvesting in companies that are related to clean energy and a more sustainable economy.
Trillium Asset Management has helped a number of their clients divest and has expertise in environmentally responsible investment. Their firm was also active in South Africa divestment in 1980’s. They have worked with the national climate change organization 350.org on divestment and co-authored the whitepaper “Extracting Fossil Fuels From Your Portfolio.”
