Join us tonight at 7 p.m. in CUE 203 for the second film in the White Rose Exhibit series, Sophie Scholl: Die Letzten Tage (Sophie Scholl the Final Days), focusing on a key member of the White Rose anti-Nazi resistance movement during World War II. Today marks the 71st anniversary of the distribution of the 6th White Rose leaflet at the University of Munich.
The film will be introduced by Dr. Rachel Halverson, Associate Professor of German, Marianna Merritt and Donald E. Matteson Distinguished Professor and Associate Chair, Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures.
Sophie Scholl is the fearless activist of the underground student resistance group, The White Rose. Using historical records of her incarceration, the film re-creates the last six days of Sophie Scholl’s life: a journey from arrest to interrogation, trial and sentence in 1943 Munich. On Tuesday Feb. 25, Dr. Torsten Homberger of the Department of History will introduce Valkyrie, the final film in the series.
All showings take place in CUE 203 at 7 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
