Montgomery Named WSU’s Outstanding Graduate Student in Speech and Hearing Sciences

SPOKANE, Wash. — Wendy Montgomery of Spokane received the award for 2001 Outstanding Graduate Student in Speech and Hearing Sciences during the Washington State University Spokane spring commencement ceremonies.

Montgomery’s extra efforts in the classroom and clinic were recognized in the award. “In the clinical area, Wendy puts others at ease, demonstrating compassion and empathy, as well as a high level of professionalism when dealing with patients,” said Gail Chermak, professor and chair of the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences.

Montgomery received her undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Eastern Washington University in 1999. She is completing internships at Spokane Ear Nose and Throat and Lakeland Village, where she does general diagnostic audiology on children and adults. Montgomery formerly worked in the health care industry after graduating from Trend Business College as a medical secretary. She plans to continue her career in health care as a clinical audiologist.
