The WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is hosting its first Match Day ceremony for the inaugural class of medical students that will graduate this spring at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 19.

Match Day is a major milestone for 4th year medical students in which the National Resident Matching Program notifies graduating medical students across the country about which residency program they have been “matched” to. For several months, students have been applying and interviewing for these coveted spots in their medical specialties of choice. At exactly 9 a.m. PST on the third Friday in March, every medical student across the nation learns where they will spend the next 3–7 years of their medical training.

The WSU College of Medicine virtual Match Day ceremony will honor the college’s first WSU medical students to be matched. Due to COVID‑19, the celebration will be held virtually in the evening via YouTube. Earlier in the day, students will receive the news of where they have matched for residency. The ceremony will be shared on the @WSUMedicine Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. The event hashtags are #WSUMatchDay and #matchday2021.

The ceremony will feature remarks from WSU College of Medicine Founding Dean Dr. John Tomkowiak, WSU President Kirk Schulz, WSU Health Sciences Vice President and Chancellor Dr. Daryll DeWald, and WSU faculty and staff, and medical students from the inaugural class.
