Washington State University students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields are invited to a research opportunities virtual fair Feb. 3 and 4 from 4–5:15 p.m., said program hosts.

They are the WSU Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participants (LSAMP) and the Team Mentoring Program (TMP).

“We are hosting the event to help students find a research faculty mentor and a project, and to explain possible financial support in the form of research awards,” said WSU LSAMP Director Yadira Paredes.

The fair is an annual event, though this year it will be conducted virtually using a Zoom platform due to in-person COVID-19 pandemic considerations. Also new this year are discussions led by graduate students from about 20 faculty-led programs across the university.

“Students helped plan this year’s event and suggested they’d like to hear from other students actually involved in STEM projects,” Paredes said.

Participants can attend the Feb. 3 or 4 session, and will shortly thereafter have the opportunity to further discuss research options with peer mentors from the Office of Undergraduate Research, in the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement (DAESA) in the provost’s office. That could lead them to meeting with research faculty and the chance to explore positions doing research.

Those wishing to attend can find Zoom link information on the WSU LSAMP website.
