The Washington State University volleyball team is heading to its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament following a dramatic victory over rival Washington in the Apple Cup.

The Cougars will take on San Diego at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Honolulu, Hawaii in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. After two years of falling in the second round of the tournament, last year’s team made it to the Sweet Sixteen where they lost to the eventual champions, Stanford.

A 23-9 season for the WSU Volleyball Team this year included a regular season sweep of the Washington Huskies for the first time since the 2001 season.

The team is led by seniors Alexis Dirige and Jocelyn Urias, the former becoming the Cougs’ all-time career digs leader this year. Urias ranks among the top ten WSU players all-time in block assists, blocks and blocks per set. Magda Jehlářová also was named the PAC 12’s Freshman of the Year following an outstanding regular season.
