Skagit County Extension’s Family Living program teamed up with the state Department of Social and Health Services and other community partners to help spearhead a fun and educational “Healthy Eating, Active Living” event in Mount Vernon.
Displays and presentations were set up May 15 in the lobby of the DSHS Mount Vernon Community Service Office and reached more than 350 people. Key messages included healthy food choices with at least five fruits and vegetables daily, limiting screen time to two hours per day, engaging in physical activity for at least an hour per day and avoiding sugary beverages.
The WSU Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program also offered food tasting and recipe preparation tips.
A video roundup produced by DSHS includes a brief section on the Mount Vernon effort.
