Geeta Dutta recently was selected as a Research Leader Fellow by the Association of Public and Land‑Grant Universities (APLU) Council on Research (CoR). The fellowship program is designed to provide training and skill development to individuals who work closely in various capacities with vice presidents, vice provosts, and vice chancellors for research.

“I am honored to be selected as a Fellow,” said Dutta, who was recently appointed assistant vice president for research advancement partnerships. “The APLU CoR Research Leader Fellowship Program will enable me to develop expertise and skill in multiple areas relevant to leading a research agenda.”

The Research Leader Fellowship Program leverages CoR’s network of research leaders and allows fellows to grow connections across areas of expertise and expand relationships among professional organizations, APLU, and institutions. The program also will provide broad leadership training and peer mentoring.

“Participating in the fellowship program provides an opportunity for me to engage and learn about the breadth of areas relevant to leading the research agenda and enterprise at a university,” Dutta said.

APLU CoR monitors government rules and regulations affecting campus scientific and technical research, and those concerning graduate education. CoR working groups have focused on such topics as the re‑authorization of the Higher Education Act, the protection of human research subjects, and improving the culture of safety in campus laboratories and work spaces.

Prior to her appointment as assistant vice president for research advancement partnerships, Dutta served as director for the Office of Research Advancement and Partnerships (ORAP) unit.

She will continue to direct ORAP activities, including the development of large interdisciplinary proposals, grant writing training programs at all campuses, dissemination of funding opportunities, and oversight of the strategic research investment program. Additionally, she will develop strategic plans for WSU research programs in support of the Drive to 25, provide oversight of University‑wide core and shared facilities, and provide oversight of Office of Research centers and institutes.
