Nominations for committee membership were sought from WSU leadership, the university’s deans, and the Faculty Senate. A slate of nominees was presented to President Kirk Schulz, who made the final choices.

“The committee reflects a broad and diverse cross‑section of the WSU community statewide, including faculty, staff, students and institutional leadership,” said Cillay.

Those who are interested in providing feedback about the search or looking to stay up to date on the progress can visit the provost search website.

The goal is to have a successor to Daniel J. Bernardo appointed by the end of the upcoming spring semester. Bernardo, who announced Dec. 3 he is stepping down, has agreed to remain on the job until his successor is selected. He then will serve in a part‑time position as special advisor to Schulz.

The provost serves as WSU’s chief academic officer, overseeing instruction and the hiring of WSU’s faculty and deans. WSU has hired the executive recruiting firm of Issacson, Miller to assist in identifying potential candidates.
