Sept. 15-16: WSU Regents to hold regular meeting in Pullman

 PULLMAN, Wash. – The Board of Regents of Washington State University will hold a regularly scheduled meeting Sept. 15 and 16 in the Compton Union Building on the Pullman campus.

The meeting will begin at noon Sept. 15 in CUB Room 310 with a board lunch, followed at 1:15 p.m. by concurrent meetings of the Regents’ Research and Academic Affairs (CUB 204), Student Affairs and Student Life (CUB 206), and Institutional Infrastructure committees (CUB 206). At 2:30 p.m., Regents will convene a meeting of the Finance Compliance Committee (CUB 208), followed at 3:30 p.m. in the same location by a meeting of the Regent’s Strategic and Operational Excellence Committee. An Executive session, if needed, will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the same location. The meeting day will conclude with a Board of Regents dinner at 6:30 p.m. in the President’s Residence at 755 NE Campus Ave.

The Regents will re-convene in CUB 208 at 7:15 a.m. on September 16 for breakfast, then move to CUB 204 to initially hear reports, including reports from the Chair of the Board of Regents and the President of the university. Regents will then receive reports from the WSU Foundation, the WSU Faculty Senate, Associated Students of WSU, Graduate and Professional Student Association, WSU Administrative Professional Advisory Council, and WSU Alumni Association.

The regents are expected to take action on a variety of items during the meeting. Those items are as follows:

  • A proposal establishing the 2017 and 2018 Board of Regent Meeting Schedule.
  • A proposal by the WSU College of Education to discontinue several degrees which are no longer active or have changed names and change program names to align with degree names.
  • A proposal to establish the Center for Interdisciplinary Statistical Education Research (CISER) to improve access to statistical expertise.
  • A proposal to establish the Center for Institutional Research Computing (CIRC) as a coordinating organization to advance and promote high-performance research computing with a focus on application domains aligned with the University’s enduring and emerging areas of academic strength.
  • A proposal to establish the Institute for Nuclear Science and Technology to provide a hub for multidisciplinary research, education, and innovation in nuclear science and technology that addresses societal challenges in global security, human health, energy, and the maintenance and restoration of environmental quality.
  • A proposal to approve a recommendation to name South Campus Facility on the WSU Spokane campus the “Center for Clinical Research and Simulation.”
  • A proposal to approve a recommendation to rename the WSU Pullman, Research and Education Complex to the V. Lane Rawlins Research and Education Complex.
  • A proposal to approve a recommendation of naming the Museum of Art on the WSU Pullman campus to “Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.”
  • A proposal to approve the design documents for the WSU Museum of Art Expansion.
  • A proposal to delegate authority to the President to ratify the 2017-2019 collective bargaining agreements negotiated under Chapter 41.80 RCW with the exclusive representatives of bargaining units of Washington State University classified employees.

In addition, on Thursday, September 15, the Regents will attend a Faculty Senate Reception at the Foundry Kitchen and Cocktails, 125 SE Spring St., Pullman, scheduled from 5:15 pm to 6:15 pm.  On Friday, September 16, the Regents will participate in the building dedication for the WSU Public Safety Building at 11:00 am, and on Saturday, September 17, the Regents will attend the WSU vs UI football game in Martin Stadium.
