New student orientation using phone app for team building

SPOKANE, Wash. – Students starting classes on the Spokane campus of Washington State University and Eastern Washington University will have a joint orientation to campus Thursday that includes locating different people and places on campus as directed by a phone app.
Many of the students are studying health sciences at WSU or EWU and begin classes on Monday. Aug. 22.

More than 400 new students are expected to attend the orientation and they will be welcomed to campus at 9:40 a.m. by WSU Chancellor Lisa Brown and EWU Dean of the College of Health Science and Public Health Laureen O’Hanlon.

They will then be sent out in randomly selected teams of six students studying in different health disciplines on an “Interprofessional Odyssey” around campus as guided by the phone app.

The students will be served lunch outside on the patio of the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences Building and then attend an outdoor resource fair from 2-4 p.m. at the Academic Center where various services on campus and student organizations will have informational tables.
